College student sacrifices himself in heroic attempt

A tragic incident unfolded in Gaibandha on Monday morning as a college student, Naziul Islam, lost his life while trying to save a housewife and her child from an oncoming train.

Naziul, an eleventh-grade student at SKS School and College, reportedly witnessed Razia Begum, a 23-year-old housewife, standing on the railway tracks with her baby in the Majhipara area. Sources suggest Razia might have been contemplating suicide.

Reacting swiftly, Naziul heroically attempted to pull Razia away from the tracks. Sadly, his valiant effort, could only save the child , resulted in both Naziul and Razia being struck by the train and succumbing to their injuries at the scene.

The child, however, suffered serious injuries during the ordeal, falling from Razia’s grasp. Thankfully, alert bystanders intervened, rushing the child to Gaibandha General Hospital.

Due to the severity of the injuries, the child was later transferred to Rangpur Medical College Hospital for further treatment.

“The college student died in a selfless act while trying to save the woman and her child,” confirmed Khairul Islam, Officer-in-Charge of Bonarpara (Gaibandha) Railway Police.

“The injured child is undergoing treatment at Rangpur Hospital. The incident is under investigation, and necessary actions will be taken based on the findings.”
