Bangladesh Cricket team scored 178 in the first innings on the third day of the second Test against Sri Lanka Cricket team at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Monday.

Earlier, Sri Lanka piled up a massive total of 531 in the first innings on the second day (Sunday).

Later, Sri Lanka scored 102 for the loss of six wickets before the bails were drawn for the third day. Sri Lanka have overall 455-run lead.

Thus, the Tigers were on the back foot.

Angelo Mathews fought back against the tight and controlled bowling attack of Bangladesh bowlers.

Mathews remained unbeaten with 39 runs.

Hasan Mahmud claimed four wickets in the space of 51 runs, while Khaled Ahmed bagged two wickets at the cost of 29 runs.

Earlier, Bangladesh resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 55 for the loss of one wicket.

Zakir Hasan and Taijul Islam resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 28 and naught respectively.

Zakir Hasan and Taijul Islam added 49 runs in the second wicket stand before Zakir Hasan was bowled out by Vishwa Fernando when the Tigers’ total was 96 for the loss of two wickets.

Zakir Hasan knocked a calm 54 using 104 deliveries with eight fours.

Najmul Hossain Shanto (1) was caught at the short mid-wicket by Dimuth Karunaratne off Prabath Jayasuriya when the hosts’ score was 101 for the loss of three wickets.

Taijul Islam (22) was bowled out by Vishwa Fernando when Bangladesh’s total was 105 for the loss of four wickets.

Shakib Al Hasan (15) was trapped leg before wicket by Asitha Fernando when the home side’s score was 126 for the loss of five wickets.

Litton Das (4) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Kusal Mendis off Asitha Fernando when Bangladesh’s total was 130 for the loss of six wickets.

Shahadat Hossain (8) was caught at the second slip by Kamindu Mendis off Lahiru Kumara when the hosts’ score was 148 for the loss of seven wickets.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz (7) was trapped leg before wicket by Prabath Jayasuriya when Bangladesh’s total was 165 for the loss of eight wickets.

Mominul Haque (33) was trapped leg before wicket by Asitha Fernando when the home side’s score was 175 for the loss of nine wickets. Mominul crossed the 4000-run land-mark in Test cricket.

Khaled Ahmed (1) was bowled out by Asitha Fernando when Bangladesh’s innings came to an end.

Asitha Fernando captured four wickets in the space of 34 runs, while Lahiru Kumara, Vishwa Fernando, Prabath Jayasuriya bagged two wickets each for 19, 38 and 65 runs respectively.
