Sri Lanka Cricket team piled up a massive total of 531 in the first innings against Bangladesh Cricket team on the second day of the second Test match at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Sunday.
In reply, Bangladesh fought back scoring 55 for the loss of one wicket.
The Tigers had a solid start as the two openers Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Zakir Hasan put on together 47 runs in the opening stand before Mahmudul Hasan Joy (21) was bowled out by Lahiru Kumara.
Zakir Hasan was on 28, while night watchman Taijul Islam was on naught before the bails were drawn for the second day.
Bangladesh trailed by 476 runs in the first innings.
Sri Lanka resumed their first innings with the over-night score of 314 for the loss of four wickets.
Dinesh Chandimal and Dhananjaya de Silva resumed their over-night score of 34 and 15 runs respectively.
Chandimal and Dhanajaya put on together 86 runs in the fifth wicket partnership before Chandimal was caught behind by wicketkeeper Litton Das off Shakib Al Hasan when Sri Lanka’s score was 375 for the loss of five wickets.
Chandimal knocked a sedate 59 using 104 deliveries. He hit five fours and two sixes.
After Chandimal’s dismissal, Dhananjaya and Kamidu Mendis added 36 runs for the sixth wicket partnership before Dhananjaya was trapped leg before wicket by Khaled Ahmed when the Islanders’ total was 411 for the loss of six wickets.
Dhananjaya hit a captain’s knock of 70. His 111-ball innings had six fours and two sixes.
After Dhanajaya’s removal, Kamindu Mendis and Prabath Jayasuriya scored together 65 runs in the seven-wicket stand before Jayasuriya (28) was trapped leg before wicket by Shakib Al Hasan when the tourists’ score was 476 for the loss of seven wickets.
Kamindu remained unbeaten with 92 runs. He hit seven fours and two sixes in his 167-ball innings.
Vishwa Fernando (11) was run out by a direct throw of Najmul Hossain Shanto when Sri Lanka’s total was 497 for the loss of eight wickets.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz struck as Lahiru Kumara (6) was bowled out by the right-arm spinner when the visitors’ score was 518 for the loss of nine wickets.
Asitha Fernando (0) was run out by Taijul Islam when Sri Lanka’s first innings came to an end.
Shakib Al Hasan was his team’s most successful bowler with three wickets in the space of 110 runs, while Khaled and Miraz took one wicket each for 71 and 146 runs respectively.
