Rape at gunpoint: Tangail AL leader Boro Monir sued in Dhaka
Staff Reporter :
A college student has filed a case against Golam Kibria, also known as Boro Monir, an Awami League leader in Tangail, accusing him of raping her in the capital.
She filed the case with Turag Police Station in the capital on Saturday under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.
Earlier, the victim student was rescued by the police from Kibria’s apartment in the Priyanka City residential area under the jurisdiction of Turag Police Station on Friday night, following a distress call made to the 999 emergency service.
It is alleged that she was forcibly taken to the apartment at gunpoint and raped. Kibria, however, had fled the scene before the police arrived.
Abu Sayeed Miah, Inspector (Investigation) of Turag Police Station, confirmed that a rape complaint had been lodged against the Awami League leader.
“The victim is currently under our protection, and we are preparing to file the case.” Police are also working to arrest the accused, he added.
The victim’s father alleged that his daughter was raped at gunpoint on Friday night in a car following an interaction on Facebook. He has demanded justice for his daughter.
Kibria, who is the elder brother of Tangail-2 MP Soto Monir, is currently out on bail in connection with a previous rape case, in which Kibria’s wife, Nigar Aftab, was also implicated.
The case was filed by the victim at Tangail Sadar Police Station on Apr 5 last year. Earlier, the 17-year-old girl, who had accused Golam Kibria Boro Moni of raping her, was found dead in her house on November 19, 2023.
According to the statement of the case, in which Boro Moni was accused, the girl, who was an orphan, had become pregnant from the rape incident.
After giving birth, she was living on the second floor of her three-storey ancestral home in her village with an infant son and a domestic help.
