Dredging of Mongla Port inner bar starts again

Bagerhat Correspondent :
After a long gap of two years, the dredging work of the inner bar of Mongla Sea Port (in Bagerhat district) was once again started recently, according to a report received here. At present the dredging was started with 4 cutter suction dredgers in the 2 and 4 sections areas of the inner bar of the Port.
It is learnt from an authentic source of the Port authorities that the dredging project was started in the year 2021 and after completion of 35 per cent work (of dredging) it was suspended in the year 2022 for want of lands where the dredged mud will be placed the dredging was suspended for a time being. As a result, the ships with 8.5 drafts were able to arrive at the Port easily. But for suspension of the dredging work for more than one year, many places of the channel of the Port were already silted with sands and consequently, ships with 8.5 drafts could not arrive at the port easily. But very recently the lands where the dredged mud will be placed were managed and as a result, the dredging work in the inner bar already resumed. Rear Admiral Shaheen Rahman, Chairman of Mongla Port Authorities told, it is the promise of the premier Sheikh Hasina “activate Mongla Port for all time at any cost.”
In this respect Mongla Port Authorities are always vigilant or active to translate the premier’s promise into action. The ongoing dredging work in the inner bar of the Port is completed successfully the ships with 9.5 drafts to 10 drafts can ply on the inner bar or on the Pashur channel of Mongla Port easily for 24 hours. The Chairman of the Port added, with the arrival of ships with more drafts at the Port the income of the port was increased in the one hand and on the other hand, collection of the Government revenue increased to a great extent.
