The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), the main opposition party, has expressed profound shock and grief following a tragic fire at a commercial building on Bailey Road in Dhaka, which resulted in 46 fatalities and numerous injuries.

In a statement released on Friday, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir conveyed the party’s condolences.

“About 46 individuals lost their lives in the blaze that engulfed the six-story building on Bailey Road Thursday night.

The anguish and sorrow of those currently battling for their lives in hospitals are profoundly distressing,” the statement read.

Mirza Fakhrul extended his deepest sympathies, noting that according to the information provided by relevant doctors and officials, the death toll might rise further. “This tragic event has deeply moved and saddened me.

My heart goes out to the families of the deceased and injured. I pray to Almighty Allah to grant strength and patience to those who have lost their loved ones in this dreadful fire,” he remarked.

He also expressed his wishes for a swift recovery for those injured in the incident.

Highlighting concerns over the frequency of fire incidents, Mirza Fakhrul criticized the lack of governance and rule of law in the country, attributing these factors to the increase in such devastating events.

“The government’s failure to hold individuals accountable for their actions contributes to societal chaos, leading to the untimely deaths and suffering of the people,” he stated.

Furthermore, Mirza Fakhrul called on healthcare providers to ensure that those injured in the fire receive adequate treatment and care.
