Office time in Ramadan
Staff Reporter :
The Cabinet, in its meeting on Wednesday, approved a proposal from the Public Administration Ministry to adjust the official working hours for government, semi-government, autonomous, and semi-autonomous bodies to 9:00 am to 3:30 pm during the holy month of Ramadan.
The meeting, chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, was held at the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). Cabinet Secretary M. Mahbub Hossain later briefed the media at the Secretariat, stating that the revised office hours would apply from Sunday to Thursday throughout Ramadan. Additionally, there will be a 15-minute break from 1:15 pm to 1:30 pm to accommodate the Zuhr prayer.
Typically, the standard office hours are from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. The adjustment for Ramadan aims to alleviate the hardships faced by employees, enabling them to reach home in time for Iftar and helping to reduce traffic congestion during peak Iftar times.
Cabinet Secretary Hossain also noted that banks, financial institutions, and government commercial entities would determine their own operating hours during Ramadan.
