Barishal storm into 2nd Qualifier of BPL Cricket

Fortune Barishal stormed into the second Qualifier of the Ispahani Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) Cricket thrashing Chattoram Challengers by seven wickets in the Eliminator phase at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in the capital’s Mirpur on Monday. By virtue of yesterday’s defeat, Chattogram
Challengers were out of title race.
Chasing Chattoram Challengers modest total of 135 for the loss of nine wickets in the allotted 20 overs, Fortune Barishal sailed home making 136 for the loss of three wickets when they had 31 balls to spare.
Barishal had a sorrow start as opener Soumya Srakar (0) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Imranuzzaman off Shuvagata Hom when Barishal’s total was just two runs.
Dashing opener Tamim Iqbal and one-down Kyle Mayers salvaged their team from danger contributing together 98 runs for the second wicket partnership before Mayers was caught behind by wicketkeeper Imranuzzaman off Bilal Khan when Barishal’s score was exact 100 for the loss of two wickets.
Mayers hammered a windy 50. His 26-ball innings was studded with five sixes and three fours. Mayers bagged two wickets in the space of 28 runs. Mayers was adjudged the Man of the Match for his all-round performance.
After Mayers’ departure, Tamim Iqbal and second-down David Miller added together 25 runs in the third wicket stand before Miller (17) was dismissed by Romario Shepherd when Barishal’s score was 125 for the loss of three wickets.
After Miller’s dismissal, Tamim Iqbal and Mushfiqur Rahim guided their team to anchor the victory target.
Tamim Iqbal remained unbeaten with 52 runs. His 43-run knock was laced with nine fours.
Shepherd, Bilal Khan and Shuvagata Hom picked up one wicket each conceding 17, 30 and 45 runs respectively.
Chattogram Challengers lost their first wicket for four runs as opener Tanzid Hasan (2) was caught behind by wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim off Mohammad Saifuddin.
After Tanizid’s dismissal, opener Josh Brown and one-down Imranuzzaman built only notable partnership for Chattogram Challengers scoring together 27 runs in the second wicket stand before Imranuzzaman (7) was dismissed by Obed McCoy when Chattogram’s score was 31 for the loss of two wickets.
Josh Brown hit a remarkable 34. His 22-ball innings was studded with three sixes and two fours.
Shuvagata Hom was the other notable batter for Chattogram who shone with the willow.
Shuvagata Hom made 24. He hit four fours in his 16-ball innings before he was bowled out Kyle Mayers when Chattogram’s total was 110 for the loss of six wickets.
Mohammad Saifuddin and Obed McCoy claimed two wickets each instead of 28 and 29 runs respectively.
Taijul Islam and James Fuller got one each for 22 and 26 runs respectively.
