Crowed at Book fair: Nation pays homage to language heroes

The streams of the Ekushey February however over flown to the Book Fair as people from all walks life gathered the fair venue.

After paying tribute at the altar of the Central Shaheed Minar, the flock of the people packed to the book fair.

Earlier on Wednesday, the nation paid their rich tribute to the martyrs of the language movement by placing floral wreaths at the altar of the Shaheed Minar.

However, thousands of bookworms thronged into the fair venues, Bangla Academy premises and Suhrawardy Udyan and the fairground of the month-long Amar Ekushey Book Fair wholly occupied on noon.

Sales also increased that day and the stall attendants were passing busy time to exhibit book.

People from all walks of life came together to pay their heartfelt tributes by laying flowers at the Shaheed Minar in respect of the brave souls who sacrificed their lives to establish the rights of the mother tongue, Bangla, in 1952.

President Mohammed Shahabuddin and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina paid their rich tribute to the language martyrs by placing wreaths at the altar of the Central Shaheed Minar respectively at the first moment of February 21.

They also stood in solemn silence for a while as a mark of profound respect to the language heroes.

Sheikh Hasina and her party’s leaders also paid tribute at the Central Shaheed Minar on behalf of ruling Awami League.

Later speaker of the National Parliament Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury, Chief Justice Obaidul Hasan, Deputy Speaker Shamsul Haque Tuku and Opposition Leader of the National Parliament GM Quader placed plowers at Shaheed Minar.

The chiefs of the three forces, senior Awami League leaders, freedom fighters, foreign diplomats, high civil and military officials and Dhaka University personnel along with Vice-chancellor also paid tributes afterwards.

Later the common people were allowed to enter the Shaheed Minar premises.

The people entered to the Shaheed Minar with queue through the Palashi crossing, and the road in front of Salimullah Muslim Hall and Jagannath Hall.
