4 key timelines for a fulfilling working life
Staff Reporter :
In a recent interview with The New Nation, Sarjit Baral, CEO of Agami.com, shared valuable insights on career progression and success. Baral emphasised the significance of overcoming the initial nervousness that often accompanies the start of a career.
Baral proposed a four-part timeline for a fulfilling working life: the learning period, investment period, talent branding period, and retirement period.
He emphasised that the first 2-3 years constitute the learning period, during which individuals should focus on developing essential skills, serving as a foundation for the rest of their careers.
The CEO stressed that the 3rd to 10th year is the investment period, where individuals should explore various aspects of their chosen industry.
During this time, decisions about specialization and sector preference should be made, laying the groundwork for future success.
Talent branding, according to Baral, becomes crucial after 10 years in the professional arena. Professionals should aim for roles that highlight their qualifications, such as heading a department in a reputable organization, to establish themselves as talented individuals.
The retirement stage, occurring after 15-20 years, is when individuals should strive to become the head of a company for a secure future, as Baral believes there is little left to learn at this stage.
Baral also emphasized the importance of aligning personal interests and skills with job choices. He advised against comparing oneself with colleagues in the short term, suggesting that focusing on personal growth and skills development is more beneficial.
Furthermore, Baral cautioned against choosing convenience, money, or comfort over opportunities that may bring responsibility and growth.
He highlighted the significance of hard work, coupled with an understanding of industry trends, stating that one must develop leadership skills to navigate the evolving professional landscape successfully.
