Farmers in festive mood with mustard yields

Only a few years ago, many farmers in Madhukhali turned away from mustard cultivation due to short duration of production but not good price. However, at present, the farmers of the upazila are becoming more interested in mustard cultivation due to the free fertilizer and seeds provided to the farmers through the incentives of the agriculture department and good demand and prices of mustards in the market. The agriculture department expects to produce about 20 crore taka of mustard in the upazila this season. According to the sources of Upazila Agriculture Extension Directorate, the target of mustard cultivation has been set on 1 thousand 600 hundred and 80 hectares of land in the current season. Mustard has been cultivated on 1,600,82 hectares of land, which is 2 hectares more than last year where the agriculture department expects to produce 2400 tons of mustard. Bari-14, Bari-15, Bari-16, Bari-17, Bina-4, Bina-9, Tori-7 and Samadha varieties of mustard have been cultivated.
