Katiadi Kurikhai Fair gets momentum

The traditional Kurikhai fair began in Kishoreganj’s Katiadi upazila on Tuesday. There is a festive atmosphere on the occasion of the fair. This fair is organized around the shrine of Hazrat Shah Shamsuddin Bukhari (RA). General People from all walks of life took part in it.
The main attraction of the fair is the fish market.
Apart from this, various types of goods including wooden furniture are sold throughout the seven days. In all, several crores of money are traded in this locals believe that the fair is 800 of years old. The special attraction of this fair is the wife fair on the last two days. On those two days, the women of the area went to the fair to shop and enjoy. Women dominate everything. Village girls are coming to Naior. Meanwhile, on the first day of the seven-day fair, people have been pouring in since Monday.
According to legend, in 1225, Hazrat Shah Shamsuddin Bukhari along with three companions Shah Nashir, Shah Kabir and Shah Qalandar set up an Astana at Kurikhai of Mumurdia Union of Katiadi Upazila to spread Islam.
was the first preacher of Islam in the region. After his death, devotees started Kurikhai fairs around the shrine. In this Kuridkhai every year on the last Monday of the month of Magh, a seven-day fair begins on the occasion of Ors.
Locals believe that by eating boal fish of the fair, they will get rid of danger for this year. So the common masses have more eyes on Boal fish. But not only Boal, but all kinds of big fish are available in the fair. Basically Dawati Jamai are the main buyers of these fish. They buy big fish to please their in-laws.
There are puppet dances, circuses, motorcycle races, street dances and many other events. Seeing this, children as well as adults are enjoying. This fair runs from morning to late night.
