Three killed in separate accidents in N’ganj
Three people, including a child, died in separate road accidents and a drowning incident in Narayanganj on Friday.
Haradhan Chandra Dutta, 45, was killed after being hit by a lorry while crossing the road in the Pul area of Siddhirganj.
A few hours later, Shahadat Hossain, 35, was killed when a Laguna minibus crashed into the rear of a covered van parked beside the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway in the Sanarpar area of Siddhirganj. Another person was injured in the accident.
According to locals, the first accident occurred on Adamji Road, part of the Shimrail-Adamji-Chashara Link Road, in the Pul area of Siddhirganj.
Haradhan was the son of Bharat Chandra Dutta of West Majhighat area under Kotwali Police Station in Cumilla district. He lived in a rented house in the C.I. Khola area of Siddhirganj and worked at a local sweets shop.
The second accident occurred on the Dhaka-bound lane of the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway.
The Laguna minibus crashed into the rear of the covered van, which was parked beside the highway. Shahadat, who was sitting beside the driver, was killed on the spot.
The injured person was rescued by local residents and taken to a hospital for treatment. The Laguna driver fled the scene, leaving the vehicle behind. Upon receiving the news, highway police reached the spot and recovered both vehicles.
Meanwhile, in the afternoon, seven-year-old Ashrafi Akter drowned while bathing with family members in a pond beside their home in Shambhupura village of Khagkanda Union in Araihazar.
Police from Siddhirganj, Araihazar and Shimrail Highway Police Station said the bodies were recovered and sent to the morgue for autopsies. Legal proceedings are underway.
Her relatives searched for her and recovered her from the pond nearly two hours later. They took her to Araihazar Upazila Health Complex, where attending physician Dr Sumon Das declared her dead.
