4,000 seedlings on display in Rangpur Horticulture Centre

To encourage people in Rangpur region to plant trees, Rangpur Horticulture Center has been providing seedlings of various species of forest, fruit and medicinal plants at affordable prices. The center is working on extension of horticultural crops. At present there are 73 horticulture centers in the country.
Rangpur Horticulture Center organised a total of 4 thousand 86 agricultural exhibitions and imparted training to 12 thousand 997 farmers in the last 15 years (2009-2023). It has created mother gardens, preserves germplasm and produced quality seeds, seedlings and cuttings.
Under Rangpur Horticulture Center’s Integrated Quality Horticulture Development Project (2010-2015), 2,880 farmers have received training in fruit and vegetable gardening.
About 882 fruit and vegetable garden exhibits have been set up under this scheme. 7 thousand 325 farmers have been trained on techniques to grow fruit production profitably and 1 thousand 511 fruit garden demonstrations have been set up at the farmer level under the Nutrition Development Scheme through Year-round Fruit Production (up to 2015-2016).
Under the Mushroom Cultivation Extension Project (from 2009-2014), 2,400 farmers were trained in mushroom cultivation and mushroom seeds were provided at the farmer level.
Under the National Agricultural Technology Program project (2017-2023) besides training 60 farmers, 1,511 fruit garden demonstrations were set up at the farmer level and 74,745 vegetable seedlings were produced and distributed.
Besides, 302 farmers have received training under Medicinal Plant Cultivation Extension Program (2018-2021). Under this project, 156 garden exhibitions with medicinal properties were set up at farmer level.
12 mother gardens have been set up at Rangpur Horticulture Center under the Extension, Management and Production of Leguminous Crops Project (up to 2018-2019) and 58,439 leguminous seedlings have been produced and distributed.
30 growers have been trained and 14 demonstrations have been set up till 2023 under the Spices Improved Varieties and Technology Extension Project.
Local farmers are being encouraged to cultivate various types of horticultural crops by receiving training at Rangpur Horticulture Centre. As a result, the quantity of horticultural crops in Rangpur region is increasing which is making an important contribution to the socio-economic development of the farmers besides meeting the needs of food and nutrition.
Rangpur Horticulture Center official agriculturist Dr. Md. Abu Sayem said that the amount of horticultural crops in Rangpur region is increasing manifold.
Hundreds of farmers have received training from this center, set up fruit garden exhibitions, and produced vegetable seedlings. He also said that medicinal garden exhibition has been set up at farmer level. A mother garden has been set up at Rangpur Horticulture Center under the extension, management and production enhancement project of leguminous crops.
