BD to import 40MW of power from Nepal

Minister of Power, Energy, and Mineral Resources, Nasrul Hamid, has confirmed the successful completion of all procedures required for the import of 40 megawatts of hydropower from Nepal to Bangladesh.

“The import of 40 megawatts of hydropower from Nepal to Bangladesh is nearing its final stages, with progress also visible in the import of an additional 500 megawatts,” said Nasrul Hamid during a meeting at his Secretariat office on Wednesday.

In a joint discussion with Nepal’s appointed ambassador to Bangladesh, Ghanshyam Bhandari, Minister Nasrul Hamid highlighted the successful completion of the process for importing 40 megawatts of hydropower from Nepal to Bangladesh. They engaged in talks covering various mutual interests.

A committee will be formed at the ministry level to further facilitate this process. The committee will collaborate with Nepal to explore possibilities of enhancing cooperation in the electricity and energy sectors.

Ambassador Bhandari expressed that collaboration between Bangladesh and Nepal in the field of hydropower has been progressively growing.

He emphasised the significance of bilateral cooperation in electricity business, operational lines, and investments in Nepal, stating that mutual benefits could be achieved through joint efforts.

The possibility of entering into a joint venture agreement for collaborative investment was also discussed during the meeting.

The diplomatic representatives concluded that enhanced cooperation in the field of energy and electricity will be mutually beneficial for both countries.

They acknowledged that working together would lead to positive outcomes and contribute to the growth of both Bangladesh and Nepal.
