Juthi an entrepreneur with success in roof gardening

Jannatul Ferdous Juthi of Ishwardi municipal area has become a successful entrepreneur by nourishing gardening as a hobby. Starting with a small tree, her collection now includes more than 300 indigenous and foreign cactus and succulent species. She is earning 15 to 20 thousand taka per month by selling seedlings online and offline.
In Juthi’s garden, a variety of colors including red, blue, purple, yellow and green can be seen on the surface. Wherever you look, you can see a fair of colorful plants. Housewife Jannatul Ferdous Juthi started gardening in 2019 by planting seedlings in a few tubs on the roof of her house behind the municipality. Kindness gradually increased. Within five years her garden was prosperous. The roof is filled with more than three hundred cactus and succulent plants from home and abroad, including Angel Wing, Christmas, Ladyfinger, Parodia, Rat’s Tail, Barrel, Moon, Aloe, Aloe and Ghritkanchan, Zebra Plant, Echiveria, Air Plant, Sansevieria, Patharkuchi. Although started as a hobby, the roof garden is now a source of income for Juthi. She is using the money from the sale of seedlings to grow the garden instead of spending it elsewhere.
Housewife Juthi said that during the corona period, the plan of gardening came to mind while under house arrest. First, we collect some cactus and succulent plants on the roof to increase the beauty. However, investment and seed collection increased with time. Currently, there are hundreds of domestic and foreign varieties of seedlings in my garden. Juthi also said that women of our country always face social obstacles to become self-reliant. Many do not have the opportunity to move outside. This initiative will encourage those who want to be self-reliant from home to become self-reliant. For those who are interested in making a garden like me, I will help them with advice and collection of seedlings.
Juthi’s husband Enamul Haque Babu said, I have a weakness for trees since childhood. I work in Ishwardi Municipality. Most of the time my wife takes care of our roof garden. I just collect seedlings from different places.
As the garden has now become commercial, buyers order from different parts of the country. I help my wife by delivering the saplings to them through courier service. When the word of Juthi’s rich roof garden spreads, many people are flocking to see the garden from different places.
