2-day Aswini Mela ends

On the occasion of 169 birth anniversary of Mahatma Aswini Kumar Dutta, a two-day long Ashwini Mela has been organized on the Government Barishal College ground in Barishal city.
At the 30 stalls of the fair, hand-made various colorful country-cakes (Pitha), chocolate cakes and various delicious winter pies (Pitha), delicious sweets have been presented for sale. Apart from this, there is an assortment of merry go round, clay made and pottery items including various toys for children also presented in the fair.
Local lawmaker and state minister for water resources Jahid Faroouque Shamim inaugurated the fair on Thursday and Deputy Commissioner Shahidul Islam was chief guest of the closing session of the fair on Friday afternoon.
Prof Dr. AS Qayyum Uddin Ahmed, acting Principal of Govt. BM College, Alka Rani Sarkar, vice principal of Govt. Barishal College, Freedom Fighter KS Mohiuddin Manik, Journalist Murad Ahmed, Saifur Rahman Miron, district Udichi president, Shubhankar Chakroborty, president of Barishal Cultural Organization Coordinating Parishad , Mintu Kumar, cultural activist, were also present in different sessions of the fair. On Friday, the second and closing day of the fair, there were a light illuminating ceremony, discussion meeting, painting competition, poetry, recitation, music and dance for the visitors at the fair ground and in memory of Ashwini Kumar Dutta. While talking to the students and guardians of the city who came to visit the fair, they said that in the days left behind by this winter season, we used to see various village fairs being organized in different areas of the district including Barishal. At that time, we visit the fair with our family and bought various toys and utensils for home use from the fair. In this regard, president of the fair organizing committee, Snehangshu Kumar Biswas, said at present days nothing happens in this Barishal city like before.
We organize this fair every year on the occasion of Ashwini Kumar Dutta’s birthday to give a little bit of joy and relief from hardship of life to the city people.
