‘Power shortage to ease significantly next summer’

The country’s power shortage will ease significantly by next summer as the government is working to increase solar power generation capacity, State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Anindya Islam Amit said on Saturday.

He said the government is providing various incentives and facilities to entrepreneurs to encourage solar power generation. As a result, the country is expected to develop the capacity to generate at least 3,000 megawatts of solar power before next summer.

The state minister made the remarks while speaking as the chief guest at an exchange meeting with head teachers, education officials and governing body chairmen at the Jashore PTI auditorium on Saturday.

The meeting, organised by the district administration, focused on improving the quality of education and moral education and ensuring cleanliness at educational institutions.

Speaking about the increase in fuel prices, Amit said fuel prices were rising in the global market and that the government could not keep domestic prices unchanged indefinitely without making adjustments.

“Saudi Arabia is practically floating on oil. Why did fuel prices rise there? Why did oil and gas prices rise in the United States? Prices are rising in the global market,” he said.

He said the government was still making adjustments while considering the interests of the people. He also stressed the need to develop a sense of moderation in consumption and teach children to use resources judiciously.
