Bagerhat Correspondent :
“MV. Malaysia Star”, one of the biggest commercial ships of the world carrying the Malaysian national flag and loading Japan-made 742 reconditioned cars of different brands from Singapore and after unloading some 259 cars at Chattogram Sea Port arrived at Mongla Sea Port on Tuesday (Jan 22) afternoon and anchored with the Jetty No. 07 of the Port. The importers and other traders opine that the unloading facilities for the imported cars of different brands at Mongla Port are far better and less costly in comparison with the other sea ports of the country. So, the importers of cars and others are more interested to use Mongla Port than others.
It is learnt from a source of the Port authorities and traders that some importers of Bangladesh purchased reconditioned cars of different brands from Nagoya, Eukohama, Osaka etc. ports of Japan and assembled them at Singapore and after loading them the ship left Singapore on January 16 for Bangladesh and it arrived at Chttogram Port on January 21 and unloaded some 259 reconditioned cars.
After then the ship arrived at Mongla Port on January 22 in order to unload the rest 483 cars. After anchoring the ship with the Jetty No.07 the unloading works of the imported cars already started. It was claimed by the representatives of M/S. Khulna Traders Ltd, an agency for unloading the imported cars from the ship. Out of the unloaded 483 cars included Axcio, Premiyo, Eleon, Aqua, Noa, Mini Bus, Ambulances and cars of some other brands. It may be mentioned here that on December 25, 2023 the same “MV .Malaysia Star” ship arrived at Mongla Port and left the Port after unloading some 803 imported cars there. Md. Shamsul Islam Samrat, former Vice-President of BARBDA and Manager Director of M/S. Trust Auto-cars told, the distance between Dhaka and Mongla Port is only 208 Kilometers while at present one can reach from Mongla Port to Dhaka within only 3 (three) hours instead of 5 to 7 hours.
