PM-dictated opposition peculiar: BNP
Staff Reporter :
Bangladesh is the only country in the world where the prime minister nominates who will be the opposition party in parliament.
“A single person’s desire for power has undermined the credibility and effectiveness of the entire system.
The current government lacks accountability to the people,” Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said while addressing a press briefing at the Bangladesh Nationalist Party’s (BNP) central office in Nayapaltan on Tuesday.
He accused the government of actively searching for a “dummy opposition” within the parliament.
“This administration assumed power through a manipulated election, and presently, it appears they are seeking a compliant opposition within the parliament,” he alleged.
Commenting on the incident on Jashore border, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi condemned the killing of a Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) member by India’s Border Security Forces (BSF).
Expressing his concern, the BNP leader said, “Before this, Bangladeshis used to be killed by the BSF. And now I see that there is no security for BGB even on the border too.”
Rizvi also referred to the dire economic situation in the country. “At least 10-15 banks in the country may be declared bankrupt at any time. The government has no money. Bangladesh Bank is printing more money. The country’s economy is at the bottom now. There is a terrible dollar crisis in the country,” he said.
He accused the government of making Bangladesh a pawn in the interests of authoritarian countries, stating, “Bangladesh has been made a slave of authoritarian countries for their interests.”
Rizvi expressed concern over the impact of rising commodity prices on the common people as they are becoming destitute day by day.
The government has yet to respond to these allegations. The BNP’s claims raise significant questions about the state of governance, the electoral process, and the economic stability of the country. The situation is likely to fuel political debates and calls for accountability in the coming days.
How the cold affected people can get warm clothes where they are struggling to get daily commodities including food, Ruhul Kabir Rizvi questioned. He alleged that this government is indifferent to the cold affected people.
