Jatiya Party is opposition in Parliament: AL
Staff Reporter :
Jatiya Party (JaPa) will be the opposition in the 12th parliament and independent lawmakers will remain as independent.
“If a political party is to become the opposition, then the JaPa is the opposition party. They are a political party. What does Awami League versus Awami League mean? Their party is the Jatiya Party, not Awami League. Independent candidates are independent. And if you [reporters] say a party [in the opposition], then the opposition party is the JaPa,” General Secretary of Awami League (AL) also Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader during a press conference at the Awami League President Sheikh Hasina’s office in the city’s Dhanmondi on Monday.Journalists at the briefing wanted to know from the AL General Secretary that Jatiya Party emerged as the second largest party in parliament with 11 seats, while the number of independent lawmakers is 62. So, who will be the opposition in parliament?
Replying to the question, Obaidul Quader, said that the political party with the second highest number of seats in the election will be the main opposition party.
“Then you [journalists] can assume that the Jatiya Party will be the opposition.”
