No posters, leaflets around polling centre, Says CEC

Staff Reporter :
The use of posters, leaflets and other infrastructures for election campaign purposes around the polling stations is prohibited.

According to a circular issued by the Election Commission (EC) on Saturday also said that no candidate can set up an election camp within the 400 yards of the polling station.

Meanwhile, Chief Election Commissioner Kazi Habibul Awal on Saturday said that Bangladesh’s next general election would surelybe free, fair and neutral and the Election Commission (EC) was determined to ensure it.

‘It is possible to hold a free and fair election with the support we have received from the government, and the EC is determined to hold the 12th national election in a free, fair and neutral manner,’ the CEC said while exchanging views with the candidates of six Sylhet constituencies at Circuit House of the district on Saturday.

Chaired by Sylhet divisional commissioner Abu Ahmed Siddique, EC secretary Md Jahangir Alam also spoke as a special guest at the event where Sylhet deputy commissioner Sheikh Russell Ahmed was present.

Kazi Habibul said that the EC had been sincerely working so that all candidates could get equal facilities in the election field, while election activities had been moving forward unabatedly with the cooperation of the government and sincerity of the local administration.

Later, he also exchanged views with the law enforcers and field-level administration at the same venue at noon.

According to the EC’s circular, arrangement of adequate lighting should be ensured so that the polling stations are not dark.

Strong surveillance should be taken to ensure that no one canvasses for voting including encourages or discourages for voting.

It is by no means advisable to set up multiple polling booths within one room of an institution set up as a polling station, the circular said adding it creates complications for the voters to cast their votes in the designated polling stations and as a result the situation goes out of control.
