Syed Nazrul’s two children fight each other

The electoral battle of two siblings in Kishoreganj-1 constituency is now widely discussed. Awami League (AL) candidate in boat symbol, Dr. Syeda Zakia Noor Lipi, MP and her elder brother Major General (Rtd) Syed Safayetul Islam is fighting with the eagle symbol as an independent candidate.
They are the children of Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam, the country’s first interim president. Syeda Zakia Noor Lipi is an incumbent member of parliament (MP) from Kishoreganj sadar — Hossionpur constituency since the death of her elder brother Syed Ashraful Islam, former General Secretary of Awami League.
It is known that the Awami League candidate is not getting his party leaders and workers together. Some leaders are openly pitching for independent candidates. Someone is a bit more cautious. Many people are silent again without taking either side.
Joint Secretary of District Awami League in Kishoreganj, Syed Ashfakul Islam Titu ran as an independent candidate without getting party nomination. However, he withdrew his nomination papers at the last minute in support of another independent candidate, his cousin Major General (Rtd) Syed Safaitul Islam. At the same time he urged his followers to work for independent candidates District Awami League Joint Secretary Syed Ashfaqul Islam Titu said that, the party leaders and workers are now freely electing. The party has no direction from the central or district level. We are working in the same way as the Central Awami League.
Awami League candidate Dr. Syeda Zakia Noor Lipi said that the voters will vote based on the development work he has done. I hope voters will choose me a member of Parliament this time too.
On the other hand, independent candidate Major General (Rtd) Syed Safayetul Islam said that politics is not family-centered. It runs on ideals. I feel that overall activities including the development of Kishoreganj are not going on properly. This is why I became an independent candidate. If I am elected, the development of the area will be guided in the right direction.
Jatiya Party (JP) candidate Dr. Abdul Hai is running on the plough symbol. He is well known as the ‘poor man’s doctor’. Moreover, he was once elected as the chairman of Kishoreganj Sadar Upazila Parishad.
