Two Dhaka CMM Courts sentence 36 BNP men in 2 cases

Two courts of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) of Dhaka on Tuesday sentenced 36 BNP men including Sechwasebok Dal leader Rajeeb Ahsan and DSCC President Zahir Uddin Tuhin for different terms in two cases.
However, another court acquitted all 23 accused of a case filed with Sutrapur Police Station as the charges were not proved against the accused.
Metropolitan Magistrate Shafi Uddin sentenced 20 BNP leaders and activists in a sabotage case filed with Ramna Model Police Station a decade ago for two years.
Of the two sections of the penal code, the convicts were sentenced to two years’ imprisonment and fined Tk two thousand, in default they will suffer two months’ imprisonment.
However, as the two punishments will be effective concurrently, the convicts will suffer in the prison for a year.
In the case convicts include- Abdur Rahman, Faruque, Nur Nabi, Kamal Uddin Sumon, Belal Hossain, Ekramul Haque Kusum, Yuns and Shahabuddin.
Police filed the case in September of 2011 on the charge of sabotage activities.
Meanwhile, Metropolitan Magistrate Mosharraf Hossain imprisoned 16 BNP leaders and activists for 27 months in another case filed with Ramna Model Police Station on the charge of sabotage.
