Stop paying taxes, bills, bank deposits

The main opposition party-BNP- has announced a non-cooperation movement against the government starting Wednesday, urging the citizens of Bangladesh to boycott the January 7 election and halt paying any tax or utility bills to the administration.
After imposing a series of hartals and blockades, BNP Senior Joint-Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi announced the non-cooperation movement through a virtual press conference on Wednesday.
As part of the movement, Rizvi called upon the party’s leaders and activists not to appear in courts in connections with any case.
The BNP leader further urged the people not to cooperate with the government by suspending payment of taxes, and water, gas and electricity bills from Wednesday as part of the non-cooperation movement.
He said the party would campaign in support of its non-cooperation movement on the 21, 22 and 23 December across the country.
“The millions of party leaders and activists accused in false cases and cases in absentia should refrain from appearing in court from today,” Rizvi said.
The party also called on voters to boycott the 12th general elections scheduled for January 7.
The party asked the returning officers and polling agents to refrain from their duties in the elections. “Please, don’t play games in the name of elections. Do not go to the polling stations.
The list of who will become MPs in the elections has already been prepared in Gonobhaban,” Rizvi said.
Addressing the people, the BNP leader also said, “This Awami League government has plundered the biggest chunk of [the country’s] money through the banking sector. As a result, depositing money with any bank is not at all safe now.”
Hours after the virtual press conference later in the day, Rizvi called for a countrywide dawn-to-dusk blockade on 24 December.
The BNP leader said that the party will hold mass contact on Thursday, Friday and Saturday in favour of the election boycott and non-cooperation movement.
