Security beefed up at airports ahead of polls

Staff Reporter :
Ahead of the 12th parliamentary elections, law and order forces fear sabotage in the country.

It is feared that the target of the miscreants are various important domestic and foreign institutions. As a result, the Civil Aviation Authority Bangladesh (CAAB) has taken initiatives to strengthen security at the country’s airports in view of the upcoming 12th National Parliament elections.

For this reason, it has been decided to deploy additional armed police at the airports. In addition to the current manpower, it has been decided to appoint an additional 100 members of the Armed Police Battalion (APBN) at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

Additional 60 members of APBN will be appointed at Sylhet International Airport. Besides, additional 54 Ansar members will be provided at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chittagong.

According to CAAB sources, the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism held a meeting recently in view of the upcoming national elections.

The issue of increasing security at the airport came up in this meeting. Later on December 5, in a letter signed by the Ministry’s Deputy Secretary Ahmed Jamil, the Chairman of Civil Aviation was informed about several decisions to strengthen security.

In that letter, 12-point instructions were given including preventing the misuse of security pass, keeping the CCTV camera active and recording the footage properly.
