BCL attack injures 4 Chhatra Union leaders at DU

Four leaders of Bangladesh Chhatra Union, including its president and general secretary, were injured in an alleged beating incident by Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) leaders and activists on Dhaka University campus on Thursday.
The incident took at the TSC and Shahbag areas. The injured were taking treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Seeking anonymity, several source of BCL said that the leaders of the Chhatra Union were beaten for allegedly tearing the banner with the text ‘Metro at TSC: Thank you Sheikh Hasina’ in front of the Raju sculpture Memorial.
Earlier, the BCL leaders attacked the march of the Democratic Student Alliance on Tuesday on this issue.
The injured are DU unit President Meghmallar Basu, General Secretary Mayin Ahmed, Dhaka Metropolitan unit Join Secretary Tajmir Tajwar Shubhra and Private University Parliament Member Shahriar Shehab.
Injured Mayin Ahmed said, “I can recognize a person named Sujan in the incident.
He is a supporter of Tanvir Hasan Shaikot, General Secretary of DU unit BCL. I don’t recognize the rest person.
“The Chhatra Union leaders were drinking tea at TSC.
The BCL men attacked them while they were leaving from the TSC by rickshaw. Meghmallar Basu and Shubhra were beaten in Shahbag area and Main Ahmed and Shehab at TSC,” the victims and Chhatra Union leaders informed.
Citing duty doctor, DMCH police outpost In-Change Bacchu Mia said, “Meghmallar’s left eye is injured. Besides, all of them have bruises on their bodies. They are being treated in the emergency department.”
Former President of DU unit Shimul Kumvhokar said that they were taking tea at TSC. Later, when Meghmallar and Shubhra went towards Shahbagh by rickshaw, eight to ten motorcycle-riding activists of BCL stopped and beat them up.”
