Commentary: The world’s resounding ‘no’ against perpetuation of Gaza war

The world has given a clear message to Israel and its ally in the war, the US, that they do not want any more perpetuation of indiscriminate Israeli bombing on Gaza and ‘demand’ an immediate ceasefire in the war between Israel and Palestine in the latest United Nations General Assembly resolution.

A total of 153 countries endorsed this resolution Tuesday after a ceasefire attempt by the UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres invoking Article-99 of UN was vetoed by the US at the Security Council.

Though this General Assembly resolution is non-binding, it has a great symbolic value, as it is a strong moral rebuke towards Israel and the US that want continuation of war on Gaza.

The US along with nine other countries voted against the resolution, while 23 countries including the UK abstained.

However, after vetoing the UNSC Gaza ceasefire resolution on December 8, the US is no longer supporting Israel as it did unreservedly all through the war since October 7 Hamas attack on Israel.

Disagreement between Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Joe Biden over Gaza policy now has emerged and the latter has cautioned the former that the world opinion has changed towards Israel for its actions in Gaza, which are being leveled as genocide, ethnic-cleansing and crimes against humanity.

With the aim of eliminating Hamas comparing it to ISIS and Al Qaeda, the Israeli Prime Minister started his war on Gaza and justified the killing of innocent people and children invoking Biblical Israel’s war against the Amalekites fought by Prophet Joshua.

This Biblical analogy is no way supportable as the occupied Palestinians are not Amalekites and the present-day Zionist Israel is not the Biblical Israel’s parallel. Still, the corrupt war monger Netanyahu whose support has come down to historical low now in his own country is not a holy figure.

Historically, it is the Palestinians who are the real descendents of the Biblical Canaanites. Contrary to these Palestinians, Jews are living in the historical Palestine who came there as European settlers.

Undoubtedly, what has been going on for about a century in British Mandatory Palestine is a display of superiority of military might over justice. But the military might cannot defeat the historical truths of the Middle East, humanity and justice.

The world has not bought the false narrative of the Zionists and spoke on Tuesday at the UN General Assembly very loudly against the atrocities committed by the Israeli Defence Force (IDF) over the unarmed civilians of Gaza.

The human rights organisations and the world at large are blaming the US for being complicit in Israel’s crimes against humanity.

In the face of this resounding UNGA disapproval of war and worldwide criticism, the US has been forced to change its diction to describe the ongoing war on Gaza and is now calling Israeli bombing on Gaza ‘indiscriminate’ in the language of the Arabs.

It is a real pity that Israeli far-right leaders fail to understand how the world is viewing them for their murder and mayhem in Gaza that is continuing for more than two months.

The more Israel persists in its war in Gaza, the more it will be isolated in the world. And with it, also the US surely!
