Rajshahi police official threatens plaintiff with ‘crossfire’

Staff Reporter :
A plaintiff was allegedly threatened with ‘crossfire’ by Additional Police Commissioner (Crime and Operation) of Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP) Hemayetul Islam if he did not withdraw a case he filed against one Nurunnabi Palash and some others.

“AC Hemayetul Islam threatened me to send to crossfire if I do not withdraw a case filed against the fraud Nurunnabi Palash and some others,” Anwar Hossain Nayon, the plaintiff of the case said in a press briefing at Crime Reporters Association Of Bangladesh – CRAB, Segunbagicha in the capital.

Anwar said that his brother Abdul Matin is an owner of several
businesses in Rajshahi city.

He went abroad in 2022 after appointing Mithu as the manager in his businesses. Mithu was brother-in-law of Abdul Matin’s pre introduced Nurunnabi Palash.

Abdul Matin also gave power of attorney to his brother Anwar Hossain to run his businesses.

Meanwhile, the manager Mithu stole several bank checks of Abdul Matin’s accounts and gave them to his brother-in-law Nurunnabi Palash.

Palash used the blank checks as a weapon and wrote a sum of Tk five crore in the checks and demanded the money from Anwar. He filed a ‘check dishonored’ case against Abdul Matin.

Later, Anwar filed a fraud case against Palash and some other people involved in the incident as Abdul Matin is abroad.

Police arrested Palash with some blank checks. The court sent him to jail with one other defendant.

Anwar alleged that the AC of the RMP Hemayetul Islam called him and the other witnesses of the case in his office on November 28, on the eve of submitting the charge sheet of the case.

“While we entered his office Hemayetul Islam started using indecent words against us and asked us to withdraw the case immediately,” Anwar said.

“Hemayetul Islam threatened us if we fail to withdraw the case he will send me to ‘crossfire’ with giving illegal arms in my hands,” he said.

Anwar said that they were now living with serious insecurity and anxiety.
