Mohammedan in semis of Independence Cup Football

Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited reached the semi-final of the Independence Club Football beating Chittagong Abahani Limited by a solitary goal in their quarter-final match at the Bir Shreshtha Shaheed Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj on Tuesday.

Earlier, Rahmatganj MFS confirmed their semi-final berth after edging past Bangladesh Police Football Club by 2-1 goals in their quarter-final match at the same venue on December 3.

Dhaka Abahani Limited cruised into the semi-final after beating Lieutenant Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club Limited by 3-2 goals in the tie-breaker of their quarter-final match at the same venue on the same day.

The stipulated ninety-minute match ended in a 1-1 draw.

Later, the match turned into the thirty-minute game. As the thirty-minute match ended in a 1-1 draw, the fate of the match was decided in the tie-breaker and Dhaka Abahani Limited won the match in the penalty shoot-out.

The ninety-minute match between Dhaka Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited and Chittagong Abahani Limited was ended in a goalless draw.

Thus, the match turned into extra-time. Mohammedan’s Uzbek midfielder Mujaffarov of the black-and-white outfit scored the all-important goal by a forceful free-kick in the 97th minute of the game.

Rest of the time Mohammedan Sporting Club retained the lead and won the match.

Mohammedan’s Malian recruit Souleymane Diabate got the notable chance in the 24th minute of the match. His power-packed shot was saved by Chittagong Abahani Limited goalie Ashraful Islam Rana.

Diabate’s long range shot was saved by Chittagong Abahani custodian at the cost of corner in the 65th minute of the game.
