Rape case filed against MP’s brother in Tangail

A college student who filed a rape case against Tangail city Awami League Vice President Golam Kibria Baro Monir died mysteriously on Saturday.

After getting the news of her death on Saturday afternoon, the police went to the residence of the victim student in Boali area of Tangail municipality.

Earlier deceased student filed a rape case against Awami League leader Baro Monir and his wife Nigar Aftab under the Women and Child Repression Act at Tangail Sadar Police Station on April 5.

According to locals, she was pregnant at the time of filing the case. Her age was mentioned in the case statement as 17 years.

Golam Kibria Boro Monir is the elder brother of Tangail-2 Constituency MP Tanveer Hasan Chhoto Monir. Accused Baro Monir was recently released on bail by the High Court.

Tangail Additional Superintendent of Police Sarfuddin confirmed the matter to the media and said that the body of the college student was found hanging in her house.

On information, police rushed to the house.

Nothing is being said until the crime scene unit arrives, he added.
