Staff Reporter :
Dengue fatalities and infections have been increased in rural areas constantly as eight out of 10 died outside Dhaka from mosquito borne disease in the last 24 hours till Sunday morning.
The latest fatalities raised the number of deaths from dengue to 1,476 this year, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said in its press release on Sunday.
Of the new fatalities, two were reported in Dhaka and eight others outside the capital.
According to the DGHS report, some 1,748 patients were hospitalised with viral fever during this period.
Of the new patients, 351 were admitted to the hospital in the capital and 1,397 outside it.
The DGHS data showed that a total of 6,373 patients are currently receiving treatment from different hospitals across the country.
As many as 2,91,832 dengue patients were admitted to hospitals across the country this year and 2,84,173 out of the hospitalised patients, however, recovered during the period.
The data also said that September has so far been the deadliest month for the dengue outbreak this year with 396 fatalities and 79,598 cases.
Talking to journalists, several entomologists said that dengue by now emerged as an epidemic as it spread all over the country but observed that the concerned agencies, particularly city corporations could not take required steps to annihilate mosquitoes.
