BNP-Jamaat blockade prog: 9 vehicles torched across the country

At least nine vehicles, including three passenger buses in capital, were torched across the country on Sunday, the first day of the fourth phase blockade enforcedby Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami.
Unidentified operatives set a passenger bus of Projapoti Paribahan on fire at the Capital’s Mirpur-10 roundabout on the first day of the blockade.
Lima Khanam, duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters, said the bus was set on fire around 1:10 pm and two firefighting units of Mirpur Fire Station rushed to the spot around 1:13 pm after being informed. The fire was doused around 1:15 pm.
At Tejgaon, a bus was set on fire at Nabisco in the capital’s Tejgaon area. The incident occurred around 8:20pm on Sunday (12 November), according to the fire service.
Two units of firefighters from Tejgaon fire station reached the spot soon after and were trying to douse the fire.
Meanwhile, another passenger bus of Malancha Paribahan was torched in old Dhaka;s Sutrapur area on Sunday morning.
Fire Service’s control room officer Ershad Hossain said a bus was set on fire in front of Sutrapur Fire Station. Two fire-fighting units managed to bring the fire under control.
Besides, a bus was set on fire near Dhakeshwar Adamjee EPZ in Shiddhirganj of Narayanganj. The incident took place around 6:37pm.
In Bogura, the picketers vandalized a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw in Shajahanpur upazila. The incident took place on the Dhaka-Bogura highway in Fatki Bridge area of the upazila around 10:30 am.
In Barisal, unidentified miscreants set fire to a passenger bus of Maa Enterprise standing on the roadside in Barishal city.
The incident took place in front of the Ansar District Commandant’s office at Kashipura in the city in the morning.
In Gazipur, a truck and a pick-up van were set on fire by unidentified criminals in Jogitola and Dhirasrom areas on Saturday night.
Basan police station Sub-inspector (SI) Shariful Islam said a pickup was heading towards Jajar area around 11:00pm. Meanwhile, three youths stopped the vehicle and torched it.
Later, on information, a fire unit from Gazipur fire station rushed to the spot and brought the blaze under control.
Similarly, a truck was set on fire by miscreants in Dhirasrom area around 9 pm.
