Couple get 10 -yr jail in arms case

A court in Chittagong convicted a couple with 10-years imprisonment in a arms recovery case .
The court in same verdict acquitted three accused of this case. The convicted couple are Md. Giasuddin and his wife Aleka Begum. Judge of Metropolitan Special Tribunal-1 Md.SKM Tofael Hasan announced this verdict on Wednesday .
The acquitted are Maniruzzaan, Md. Mamun and Shafiqul Islam.
The convicted Giasuddin is absconding but his wife in jail custody. Counsel of the state Advocate Md. Shamsul Alam said honourable court announced this verdict against the couple under section o 19(1) of arms act.
Court sources said sub-inspector o Kotwali police Humayun Kabir filed a arms case accusing Giasuddin and his wife in 2004 following the detection of arms from convict’s house of Askardighi in city on May 13 of 2004.
Police detained Aleka Begum on the spot but her husband remained absconding. Court sources said after depositions of 10 witnesses, the court finally declared this judgement, sources said.
