BNP leader held over Oct 28 cop murder

The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested Dhaka Metropolitan North BNP Joint Convener Golam Mostafa (53) from Ashulia in Savar.
Mostafa, also General Secretary of Savar upazila BNP was arrested in a case filed with Paltan Police Station over the killing of police constable Amirul Islam Parvez in the clash between police and BNP activists on October 28.
Commander Khandaker Al Moin, Director of the Legal and Media Wing of the RAB confirmed the matter to media on Friday.
He said that Mostafa was directly involved in attacking police that day.
According to law enforcers, a group of BNP men attacked police and threw brick bat at them during the clash on that day. At one stage, police entered a near-by building where they also attacked the law enforcers.
After going back outside, constable Amirul suffered head injuries when being hit by brick bat and he fell down on the road.
The BNP men then beat up the injured constable lying on the road and also hit him with sharp weapons, leaving him dead.
Meanwhile, a team of RAB-10 has arrested Central Jubo Dal Vice President Rezaul Kabir Paul from the capital in connection with a case filed under Sabotage Act.
He was arrested from the Dhanmondi area around 12pm on Friday.
RAB-10 New Commander Mohammad Farid Uddin confirmed the matter.
The RAB official said “Paul was arrested in a case filed with Keraniganj Model Police Station in Dhaka.”
Earlier, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi alleged that Rezaul Kabir Paul was picked up from his Dhanmondi residence on Thursday night by detective police. They were in plain clothes and identified themselves as detective police.
