China wouldn’t meddle in Bangladesh’s internal affairs’

Diplomatic Correspondent :
Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen said that China would not interfere in the internal affairs of Bangladesh and would assist the country in case of the necessity of addressing reserve crisis.

“Our policy is very clear. We don’t intervene. It is our hope that there will be stability after the next election and that our cooperation will continue,” he said this while addressing an event titled “BRI@10: Ushering in Next Golden Decade” at a city hotel, organised by the Diplomatic Correspondents Association, Bangladesh (DCAB).

“The reserve condition of Bangladesh is still in a good position compared to other South Asian countries.

Bangladesh can easily overcome the situation. If Bangladesh wants cooperation on reserve, China will remain prepared to provide necessary assistance. China will stand beside Bangladesh,” Yao Wen said.

Pointing to bridge the trade gap, he said, “Both sides are working on reducing the trade gap. Various initiatives including free trade economy are continuing in this regard. We hope the Free Trade Agreement between China and Bangladesh will be signed by 2026. The trade gap will reduce through the agreement,” he said.

Replying to a question on the current political situation of Bangladesh and the necessity of dialogue, the Ambassador said that the answer should come from the political leaders.

“We want stability in Bangladesh and will continue our cooperation. But it is up to Bangladeshi people how they want to see the elections and democracy,” he said. Regarding the Rohingya repatriation, he said, it was a very complicated process which requires international support.

“The Rohingyas are in very poor condition, and all stakeholders need to come forward to achieve the repatriation goal,” he said.

Upon the Palestine issue, he said that China encourages peace, justice and supports the international laws and the aspiration of the majority people of the world.

“Chine condemns all sorts of violence and attacks on the civilians,” he added. He further said that the United Nations Security Council should play its crucial role in addressing the problems of the Palestinians.

Chinese Enterprises Association in Bangladesh President Ke Changliang spoke as the special guest at the event, while DCAB President Rezaul Karim Lotus and General Secretary Emrul Kayesh also spoke.
