7 accused get life term for killing farmer

After 18 years, A Kishoreganj Court on Tuesday sentenced seven people to life imprisonment in the murder case of farmer Manik Miah in Hossainpur of Kishoreganj.
Additional District and Sessions Judge (Court-1) Md. Jannatul Ferdous Ibn Haque announced the verdict.
In addition, a fine of 50,000 taka was imposed on each accused. Of the seven convicts who were sentenced, six were present when the verdict was announced.
The convicts are Md. Shafiqul Islam, Jahangir Alam, Babul Mia, Lincoln, Emdadul Haque, Majedul Haque and Raisuddin. Shafiqul is absconding among them. All those sentenced are residents of Charalgi village of Gafargaon upazila of Mymensingh bordering Hossainpur.
Public Prosecutor (PP) in Kishoreganj Advocate Abu Nacher Farooq Sanju confirmed these facts.
Brief details of the case revealed that Manik Mia of the same village had a land dispute with the accused. Although the two parties quarreled several times and court arbitration was done, the dispute did not decrease. As a result of this, on November 2, 2005, farmer Manik was attacked by his opponents on his way home from Hajipur Bazar in Hossainpur, Kishoreganj at around 9 pm.
