The Chief Election Commissioner, Secretary and Deputy Secretary of the EC have been asked to comply with the rule within four weeks.

The High Court bench of Justice K M Kamrul Kader and Justice Khizir Hayat passed the order after primary hearing on a writ petition filed by Labour Party Chairman Mostafizur Rahman Iran.

Lawyer Zohura Khatoon appeared in the court hearing on behalf of Labour Party Chairman, while Sk Shaifuzzaman represented the state.

Earlier on July 24 this year, the Election Commission issued a letter rejecting registration of the party with the EC.

Mostafizur Rahman Iran filed the writ petition challenging the legality of the letter issued by the EC.

In the rule, the High Court also wanted to know from the respondents as to why the letter issued by the Election Commission on July 24 rejecting registration of the Labour Party should not be declared illegal.
