News Desk :
The police have detained a man accused of hacking her mother to death in the Fatullah area of Narayanganj.
Madhumala Begum, 55, was killed with a sharp domestic utensil locally known as “boti” in the early hours of Friday. Later the police detained her son, Suman Mia, 35, in this connection, reports UNB.
The deceased was the wife of Nurul Islam of the area; the couple used to run a small hotel near their home. Suman is the second among the four children of the couple.
Locals said around 1am, they heard a scream and came outside to find Madhumala Begum lying on the street covered in blood, while Suman was standing next to her with the “boti” in his hand.
Nurul was standing nearby, but nobody could approach Suman as he had a weapon with him.
After the police were informed, they came and took Suman in their custody.
Nurul said: “Due to mental imbalance Suman was divorced by his wife. She moved into her father’s house with their two daughters.
Then six years ago Suman went to Iraq. He later returned home after two months.
“On the way home from the hotel at night, I saw that Suman was hacking his mother on the street and injured her face, hands and different parts of her body. His mother died on the spot.
Then Suman went to the house with the ‘boti’ in his hand and went to sleep.”
Fatullah model police station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Noore Azam said: “The police went to the spot after receiving information about a woman being hacked to death.
Relatives of the deceased said the deceased’s son had hacked him to death. Investigation is going on in this regard.
The body has been sent to the local state-owned hospital’s morgue for autopsy.”
