CEC requests CJ to keep judges on duty in Dec to handle poll matters
Staff Reporter :
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal on Wednesday requested the Chief Justice to ensure that the lower court judges perform their duties even during the annual vacation in December this year so that they can handle the election matters.
He told this to the reporters after a courtesy meeting with the Chief Justice at the Supreme Court on Wednesday afternoon.
The CEC said, “The Judges perform the duties of the Electoral Inquiry Committee in the Parliamentary elections.
But this time, during the election (month of December) civil court judges will go on a vacation.
Therefore, I have informed the Chief Justice that the judges should not refrained from their duties in the vacation this year.
And in the month of January, the judges will perform their duties as usual.”
Chief Justice Obaidul Hassan is said to have assured the CEC of his request.
Earlier on the day, the Chief Election Commissioner and other commissioners came to the Supreme Court to have a courtesy meeting with the Chief Justice.
