A total of 16 fishermen were caught red-handed while fishing mother hilsa flouting govt ban in the Meghna river in Chandpur Sadar area on Wednesday afternoon. Two River Police teams detained them. A mobile court led by Executive Magistrate Nigar Sultana jailed them all later. Fisheries and Livestock Wealth Ministry’s Deputy Secretary Sk Kamrul Hasan, Chattogram’s Deputy Director Abdus Satter and District Fisheries officer Golam Mehedi Hasan were present in the drive against netting mother hilsa in the Meghna river.
