Forty-eight fishermen jailed for defying Hilsa ban in Barishal

In the last 24 hours, 48 fishermen have been sentenced to jail after raiding on various rivers of Barishal for netting hilsa in violating the 22-day restrictions imposed since October12 against that.
Besides, a fine of 9 thousand taka has been collected from them.
At that time, the goods seized from them were sold at auction and an income of Tk 111 thousand 100 was shown.
In the last two weeks or 14 days, 484 fishermen have been sentenced to imprisonment for different terms in 480 cases. Besides, a fine of 8 lakh 87 thousand 100 taka was collected from them.
According to the information received from the Divisional Fisheries Office, 1,617 drives were operated and 617 mobile courts were conducted in Barishal Division from October 12 to October 26 at 8 am.
In the last 14 days, the officers of the district and upazila offices of the Directorate of Fisheries visited 178 different fish landing centers, 2 thousand 678 different fish ghats, 4 thousand 591 times different arats and 2 thousand 922 different markets of Barishal division.
