BRDB former accountant sentenced 7-year jail for embezzlement

A Barishal court sentenced Litu Gupta, former accountant of Mehendiganj upazila branch office of Bangladesh Rural Development Board (BRDB) under Barishal district to 7 years rigorous imprisonment for embezzling project money by forging signatures.

In addition, a fine of 13 lakh 20 thousand taka was imposed against the absconding accussed.

Mehdi Al Masud, judge of the Barishal Divisional Special Judge Court, announced the verdict on Thursday.

Convicted Litu Gupta is the son of Mantosh Gupta of Jathia village of Kushala union under Kotalipara upazila of Gopalganj district. Announcing this verdict the judge also issued arrest warrant against absconding Litu Gupta, bench clerk Harun Or Rashid confirmed this information on Friday.

According to court sources, Litu Gupta was in charge of the accountant of BRDB office in Mehendiganj upazila under Barishal district in 2018.
