ICC Men's Cricket World Cup: Easy victory for India against Bangladesh

India posted an easy seven-wicket victory over Bangladesh in their fourth match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup at Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on Thursday.
Chasing Bangladesh’s modest total of 256 for the loss of eight wickets in the stipulated 50 overs, India stormed into the victory target making 261 for the loss of three wickets when they had 51 balls to spare.
India made an auspicious start with two openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill added together 88 runs for the opening partnership before Rohit Sharma was caught at the deep square leg by Towhid Hridoy off Hasan Mahmud.
Rohit hit a captain’s knock of 48. His 40-ball innings had seven fours and two sixes.
After Rohit’s dismissal, Shubman Gill and one-down Virat Kohli repaired the damage scoring together 44 runs in the second wicket stand before Gill was caught at the deep midwicket by Mahmudullah Riyad off Mehidy Hasan Miraz when India’s total was 132 for the loss of two wickets.
Gill notched up a respectable 53. His 55-ball knock was belted with five fours and two sixes.
After Gill’s departure, Kohli and Shreyas Iyer made another notable partnership.
They added together 46 runs for the third wicket partnership before Iyer (19) was caught at the deep midwicket by Mahmudullah off Miraz when India’s score was 178 for the loss of three wickets.
Kohli and KL Rahul powered their team to overhaul the victory target putting together 83 runs in the unbroken fourth wicket partnership.
Kohli remained unbeaten with 103. His 97-ball innings was ornamented with four sixes and six fours. It is Kohli’s 48th ODI century.
Kohli was adjudged the Man of the Match for his game-winning iinnings.
Rahul remained unbeaten with 34. He hit three fours and a sixer in his run-a-ball innings.
Mehidy Hasan Miraz captured two wickets in the space of 47 runs, while Hasan Mahmud got one wicket conceding 65 runs.
Bangladesh had a solid start as openers Tanzid Hasan and Litton Das contributed together 93 runs in the opening stand before Tanzid Hasan was trapped leg before wicket by Kuldeep Yadav.
Tanzid Hasan hit a sparkle 51. His 43-ball innings was laced with three sixes and five fours. It is promising opener’s first One Day International (ODI) half-century.
One-down Najmul Hossain Shanto arrived at the crease but he could stay for a short period as he (8) was trapped leg before wicket by Ravindra Jadeja when Bangladesh’s total was 110 for the loss of two wickets.
Second-down Mehidy Hasan Miraz also failed to shine with the willow as he (3) was caught behind by wicketkeeper KL Rahul off Mohammed Siraj when the Tigers’ score was 129 for the loss of three wickets.
Opener Litton Das was caught at the long-off by Shubman Gill off Ravindra Jadeja when Bangladesh’s total was 137 for the loss of four wickets.
Litton Das was his team’s most successful batter.
He knocked a polished 66. His 82-ball innings was studded with seven fours. It is Litton’s 12 ODI fifty.
After Litton’s dismissal, third-down Towhid Hridoy and fourth-down Mushfiqur Rahim built a notable partnership scoring together 42 runs in the fifth wicket stand before Hridoy (16) was caught at the short midwicket by Shubman Gill off Shardul Thakur when the Tigers’ score was 179 for the loss of five wickets.
Mushfiqur Rahim was caught at the backward point by Ravindra Jadeja off Jasprit Bumrah when Bangladesh’s total was 201 for the loss of six wickets.
Mushfiqur Rahim made 38 from 46 deliveries including one four and one six.
Fifth-down Mahmudullah Riyad and sixth-down Nasum Ahmed fought back contributing together 32 runs in the seven-wicket stand before Nasum Ahmed (14) was caught behind by KL Rahul off Mohammed Siraj when the Tigers’ score was 233 for the loss of seven wickets.
Riyad was bowled out by Jasprit Bumrah when Bangladesh’s total was 248 for the loss of eight wickets.
Riyad notched up a polished 46. His 36-ball innings was ornamented with three sixes and three fours.
Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj bagged two wickets each instead of 38, 41 and 60 runs respectively.
Shardul Thakur and Kuldeep Yadav took one wicket apiece.
