Waterlogging in 10 villages of Baraigram resolved

The water logging of 600 bighas of agricultural land under ten villages in Baraigram of Natore district was resolved by the initiative of Baraigram Upazilla Nirbahi Officer (UNO).

The water of ten villages in Baraigram and Lalpur upazila including Sundarbaria, Majhgram, Ramnathpur, TT Majhgaon, Kachua, Mridhakchua, Durgapur, Kashinathpur used to come down to the Khalishadanga river through Chakai canal during monsoon.

But later the Chakai canal has been almost filled with silt in the open areas of Mridhakchua and Garmati.

Half of the canal is re-excavated in Dhanaidah area.

But the other part was not re-excavated in the Mridhakchua area.

This causes water logging in the agricultural land of some villages during the monsoon season.

Farmers are affected year to year.

Similar water logging occurs this year as well.

In view of the application of the local residents, Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Abu Rasel and local UP Chairman Bir Muktijoddah Abu Bokor Siddik discussed with the local residents on Sunday and decided to dig a small canal next to the closed water Mridhakchua village.

Then a small canal was dug with excavator machine on Monday.

As a result, the problem of water logging of ten villages is solved temporally.

However, UP member Salim Reza, along with Gopalpur UP chairman Bir Muktijoddah Abu Bokor Siddik said that re-digging of about 400 meters of canals in Mridhakchua area and about 500 meters of Harukhali area in Garmati village is very necessary to solve this waterlogging permanently.

At this time Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Baraigram Upazila, Borhan Uddin Mithu, Upazilla Agriculture Officer Sharmin Sultana, Upazila Engineer Md. Rabiul Islam, UP Chairman Bir Muktijoddah Abu Bokor Siddik and general public of the area were present.
