Four thousand birds burnt to death in Bagerhat

Some four thousand birds of different spices like Cockatel, Bajurika etc. were burnt to death when a bird-farm belonging to one Shuvo Shaikh of village Surshail under Chitalmari Upazila in Bagerhat district caught fire in the early hours of Sunday, according to a report received here.
Shakil Sultan Ranu (48), Raju Farazi (28) and Tanjil Shaikh (10) sustained burn injuries while they tried to extinguish the fire.
On information a unit of Chitalmari Fire Service and Civil Defense rushed to the spot and brought under control after a long fighting for 2 hours.
Fire affected and owner of the burnt bird-farm told, I started the bird-farm 8 years ago by the side of my dwelling house in order to get relief from the curse of unemployment.
More than 4 thousand birds of Cockalet and Bajurika spices were in the farm.
At about 4 am we woke up from the bed after feel the heat of fire and hearing the crying of the birds and found that the farm caught fire.
He added, though the fire service men brought the fire under control all the birds (more than 4 thousand), cash Tk.1 (one) lakh 75 thousands 3 hundred, 2 houses, more than 4 thousand cages, several thousand baby birds and eggs were burnt into ashes.
Abdul Wadud, Officer of Chitalmari Fire Service and Civil Defense Station told, the fire originated from an electricity short circuit, according to a primary investigation.
