Controversy over selection of freedom fighters in Jamalpur

There was commotion during the verification of D category war casualties in the district of Jamalpur under the melandaha upazila. The incident took place yesterday at Mirza Azam Auditorium.
At the beginning of the inspection, Bangladesh Freedom Fighters Welfare Trust’s Managing Director (Additional Secretary) SM Mahbubur Rahman misbehaved with the former Jamalpur District Deputy Commander Sujayat Ali Fakir.
After the vetting, He also misbehaved with the journalists including threatening them not to publish the news.
On the other hand, the final speech of the additional secretary’s president after the selection has also been questioned by the local freedom fighters. He said in the closing speech – if I was not born, this scrutiny of the freedom fighters would not have happened. Freedom fighters have done a lot since I joined.
There were two residents of this district before me, they did nothing. He also shows indifference about being a freedom fighter or not, fabricating, filing complaints and testifying.
He called himself an honest officer and said, there is no better officer like me. His statement caused anger among the local freedom fighters.
In this regard, Jahangir Alam Babu, The former District organizational commander and the Freedom Fighter Shafiqul Islam, the retired principal of Jamalpur Ashek Mahmud College, said, “How did Mahbub present himself?” We do not understand it.
We know that if the father of the nation Bangabandhu was not born, we would not have got an independent country. We are shocked by his arrogant statement.
The upazila administration organized the scrutinisation. Upazila Parishad Chairman Engineer Kamruzzaman and UNO Salim Mia spoke on the occassion.
When Mahbubur Rahman got involved in a debate with Sujayat Alifakir, the deputy commander of the former District Freedom Fighters Sangsad, at the beginning of the verification process in the afternoon, the freedom fighters who were present at the time of the riot protested strongly.
At that time, he announced the suspension of the verification process and left the auditorium.
The situation calmed down when the upazila nirbahi officer Salim Mia and former district freedom fighters commander Syed Haroon Or Rashid started the verification process again.
After the selection of the freedom fighters of that day in the evening, he called the journalists present there and ordered them not to report the news. Journalists and freedom fighters were also outraged by his haughty behavior.
After the screening, when mass media workers and freedom fighters drew the attention of Mahbubur Rahman at the UNO office, he said, “Why was there no screening for the three years before I joined?” Where have you been these three years? UNO Salim Mia said to calm the situation – leave the matter to me. We will talk about this later.
