Bangladesh suffer humiliating defeat to England

England defeated Bangladesh by 137 runs in their second match of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala on Tuesday.

Sent into bat first, England piled up a mammoth total of 364 for the loss of nine wickets in the stipulated 50 overs and then all out Bangladesh for 227 off 48.2 overs.

The three Lions had a formidable start with two openers Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan put on together 115 runs in the opening stand before Jonny was bowled out by Shakib Al Hasan.

Jonny hit a superb 52 from 59 deliveries including eight fours.

After Jonny’s dismissal, Malan and one-down Joe Root built a worthy partnership.

They scored together 151 runs in the second wicket stand before Malan was bowled out by Mahedi Hasan when England’s total was 266 for two wickets.

Malan notched up a terrific 140.

His 107-ball innings had 16 fours and five fours.

Malan was adjudged the Man of the Match for his outstanding innings.

After Malan’s departure, Joe and Jos Buttler added together 30 runs for the third wicket partnership before Buttler (20) was bowled out by Shoriful Islam when England’s score was 296 for the loss of three wickets.

After Buttler’s departure, Root could stay at the crease for a short period as he was caught behind by wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim off Shoriful Islam when the defending champions total was 307 for the loss of four wickets.

Root struck a superb 82. His 68-ball knock was laced with eight fours and a sixer.

After Root’s dismissal, England batters failed make any notable partnership.

Mahedi Hasan claimed four wickets in the space of 71 runs, while Shoriful Islam captured three wickets at the cost of 75 runs.

Taskin Ahmed and Shakib Al Hasan picked up one wicket each for 38 and 52 runs respectively.

Bangladesh lost their early four wickets for 49 runs.

Opener Litton Das and fourth-down Mushfiqur Rahim mended the innings contributing together 72 runs for the fifth wicket partnership before Litton was caught behind by Jos Buttler off Chris Woakes when the Tigers’ total was 121 for the loss of five wickets.

Litton hit a marvelous 76. His 66-ball innings was belted with seven fours and two sixes.

Mushfiqur Rahim struck a fine 51. His 64-ball innings was laced with four fours.

Towhid Hridoy was the other Bangladesh batter, who shone with the willow.

He scored 39 from 61 deliveries including two fours.

Reece Topley grabbed four wickets at the cost of 43 runs, while Chris Woakes bagged two wickets giving 49 runs.
Liam Livingstone, Mark Wood, Adil Rashid and Sam Curran took one wicket apiece.
