13 bundles of yaba recovered in Bandarban
Police recovered a large consignment of yaba from a private car during an anti-drug drive in the Traffic Mor area of Bandarban town on Friday. The driver of the vehicle, Zakir, 33, was detained and the car was seized.
Bandarban Police Superintendent Wahabul Islam Khandaker said the seizure was made as part of the district-wide campaign against drugs.
He said police are working to determine the exact quantity of yaba recovered and identify others involved in the consignment.
Police said they conducted a search of the private car around 1:00pm based on a tip-off. During the search, 13 bundles of yaba were recovered from different parts of the vehicle, where the drugs had allegedly been concealed using special techniques.
The detained driver was taken to Bandarban Sadar Police Station for questioning. Police initially suspect that the 13 bundles may contain at least 20,000 yaba pills.
The police superintendent said anti-drug operations would continue to keep Bandarban free of drugs and that no one involved in drug trafficking would be spared.
Police said preparations were underway to file a case against the detained person under the Narcotics Control Act.
