178,428 girls to get HPV vaccine in Kishoreganj

The government supported by UNICEF, the vaccine alliance and WHO has launched a ground breaking Human Papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination campaign.

This initiative aims to protect the health and future of millions of girls across Bangladesh by safeguarding them against cervical cancer, a disease that claims the lives of thousands of women in the country annually.

At least 178428 teenage girls in Kishoreganj will be given HPV vaccination campaign starting from October 15 under the slogan ‘Take one dose of HPV vaccine, prevent cervical cancer’.

Among these girls aged 10-14 years, 1 lakh 64 thousand 298 will be given HPV vaccination at their respective educational institutions and the remaining 14 thousand 178 at permanent vaccination centers.

Out of the 18 working days of this four-week campaign, the first 10 days will be administered at the school level and permanent immunization centers and the remaining 8 days at the community level.

Civil Surgeon (CS) in Kishoreganj , dr. Saiful Islam told the New Nation that, the HPV vaccination campaign is starting in the country through vaccination in the districts of Dhaka division.

It will provide free HPV vaccination to girls studying in classes 5 to 9 and out-of-school girls aged 10 to 14 years.

HPV vaccination is globally proven, safe and effective in preventing cervical cancer.
